OBDII code issues
I have a 1996 Saturn SL1 automatic, AC 110,000 miles.. 4 cyl DOHC... started it the other day and it ran extremely poor, it had an extreme miss in the motor and was barely able to continue running, when i started the vehicle the check engine light came on and blinked repititously... i shut the car off and drove truck.. 2 days later when i finally had time to look at it, i hooked my OBDII handheld scanner to it and ran read sequence.. it had two codes..
P0300 ... multi cylinder missfire p1406 ... ??? had written down the code in multiple places but lost the page with description for it ... (dammit) i cleared the codes but have not driven it yet.. after clearing the codes the vehicle started and ran perfectly, and had no faults return. so anyone know what the P1406 code is and what would trigger it since its not covered lin my haynes manual.. This car does not sit long periods of time, it is driven every few days locally at hwy speeds. just not for extremely long distances sine i have 2 other vehicles and a motorcycle it has low mileage.. i plan to give to step daughter to drive once i know there isnt something i need to fix to prevent her from being stranded on the roadside due to an unidentified problem with the vehicle, all help will be appreciated.

Re: OBDII code issues
Trouble code p1406 is listed as " EGR Valve Pintle Position Circuit " ! For a better explanation , go to www.obd-codes.com/

Re: OBDII code issues
The running rough and the p0300 code are likely a big vacuum leak. Check all your vacuum lines CLOSELY for breaks. They can be hard to spot. If you find nothing, then you likely have leaking intake manifold gaskets. If your code reader will show you fuel trims, a high positive number will indicate a vacuum leak. High means more than +10. You want your fuel trims closer to zero.
