Broken shifter knob button.

I've this little nuisance for a while now, still havent found a good fix. Ive tried gluing it back on with some pretty intense glue, and it still wont hold.

Anyway here is a picture of what Im talking about:

Id like to just replace it, but Im not sure where Id get one besides a salvage yard, and I cant seem to figure out how the thing comes apart. Anyone with more info?

Re: Broken shifter knob button.

Mine did the same thing, But my second glue attempt worked for the last several years anyway.

The button gizmo is a one way device, once it goes in, it clicks into place.
Since the button on mine was broken similar to yours, I was able to ( took a bit) reach inside with a couple sharp tools to release the clip an extract the remaining broken bit. Cleaned up both bits to make a good fit and then glue up, after it sat for a while I greased up the inside hole and then while holding my breath and crossing my fingers, gently slide it back in until it clicked and locked.

Apart from that, to release the whole knob there is a U clip, about a half inch wide, in front on the gear shift lever near the bottom of the knob, that holds the whole knob on the shaft. Pull her back as far as it will go. Use a 1/8 sharp flat blade screwdriver to dig in a bit and pry it out to get it started and then grab it with a pair of pliers to remove it. Then pull the knob straight up. That is what a yard will give you.

cheers
