83 Ranger crankshaft seal

I have a 1983 Ford Ranger with an oil leak. I was told it was the front crankshaft seal, and that it shouldn't be too much of a problem to repair. Anyone know how hard of a job this would be? I believe it has the 2.0L I4 but i'm not 100% sure.

Re: 83 Ranger crankshaft seal

Front seals on just about any engine is usually not that much of a big deal. Just a matter of clearance. The serpertine belt has to come off ... then the crankpulley, which can be difficult....then the old can be plucked out.

I would recommend that you use Ford seals ... over aftermarket seals. Especially for the rear seal, if you ever do that one.
