02 Conversion Ram Van, no power to gauges

we just bought a 2002 Dodge Ram Van Conversion with a 318. We drove it home and it ran fine. Then once we got home it would start up and die. Now it won't start at all. We also noticed when you have the key in the on position, none of the gauges move. It looks like its had a problem for a while.

Has anyone ran into this before? Any help is appreciated!

Sounds like it could be a bad PCM. Does the CEL come on when the key is in the ON position? Have you tried scanning for trouble codes?

MoparRacer, does the starter turn the engine over? Have you checked for spark? Is it getting fuel? Check all the grounds. Ignition switch may be bad, could be a lot of things but we need to know if it's getting fire and fuel.

Since this is a OBD-2 vehicle, do the key dance of 3X off/on and leave on while looking at the trip odometer/mileage display. What P-codes show up?

i have a bad PCM, I was getting the "No Buss" code through the odometer.

It will crank over, it has spark. Just no power to the gauges and won't start.

OK, do this first before ordering a new PCM.

- disconnect the battery
- unplug the three cables to the PCM blow the area out with bursts of compressed air. Even air-in-a-can would work.
- wiggle the connectors back in place
- connect the battery
- start the van

If the van runs, drive around in the local area. Then park at home, turn it off and try to see if the key dance gives you Pdone or No-bus.

The van will run a little strange if the PCM comes back. Why? because the PCM has to relearn the shift points, the fuel mixture and a little of it's normal habits. Usually within 500 miles the PCM gets happy again after a full reset.

Hope this helps. Had this happen to my van back in November. Learned this from a Chrysler tech.
