Fuel Pump Assembly

My fuel gauge has been broke for about 5 years now LOL. My son is getting ready to drive so I'm going to fix it. The Delco OEM assemblies are insanely priced. I've found an Airtex one for about $190. I see them all day long on ebay for about $65 shipped. What is the difference between them? Is it simply the quality? Has anyone used the ebay assembly? Is it not worth the trouble to save a little cash?

Thx

You did not mention the year of your vehicle. There is a possibility that you could change just the fuel level sending unit for about $20, and it would be a genuine GM part. You still have to remove the tank and pump assembly. Depending on the year, I would go with the ebay pump. It is most likely more reliable than the one you have in there and you've been happy with it. But you do have to consider the amount of effort it is to replace it and want to feel good about the one you put in there. Tough call.

Re: Fuel Pump Assembly

It's a 99.

Yea, I'm not so much worried about it lasting a lifetime.. just don't want to do the job, then still have the gauge not read correctly. That's why I was skeptical about the quality of the ebay assembly.

Re: Fuel Pump Assembly

About 4 years ago I purchase just the sending unit from an ebay guy for $15. It was only that part that changes resistance as the float moves. I reused my float and all other parts, but it did include the wires to insert into my original connector body. I've not had any trouble with the gauge since.
I notice these things show up from time to time on ebay so keep looking if you can't find one currently.

Re: Fuel Pump Assembly

Well, if you are not going to replace the f/p, then I wouldn't do it if just to replace the sender....I would just reset the trip odometer, on every fillup....

I would not use an aftermarket pump....have not had much luck with them....
