My traction control has been kicking in intermittently. Immediately after wrapping electrical tape on a damaged wire that goes to my speed sensor my speedometer went dead. I assume I made it worse by touching the already damaged wire so I ordered a new wire which is being shipped to me. Will it be bad for my engine or transmission to drive it with a bad speedometer? I don't know if it affects the computer or not.... The car seems to shift normally....the speedometer just stays at 0. Actually it appears to be resting under the "stopper" instead of above it????? Advice anyone?

Re: Regal Speedometer
Won't hurt to drive with an inop speedo. If you repaired a sensor wire at a wheel speed sensor, that will not affect the speedometer, that is only for your abs/trac system.

Re: Regal Speedometer
Are you talking about a wire to one of the wheel speed sensors, or a wire to the VSS?
The fact that the needle is BELOW the "stopper", is NOT GOOD! This can happen sometimes, if the battery is disconnected/connected with the ignition key in the "on" position.....if the dash "glass" has a hole for the push rod to reset the trip odometer, sometime you can slip a wire through that opening and rotate the needle counter clock wise back to zero..... |

Re: Regal Speedometer
It was a quick fix. The wires going to the wheel hub (speed sensor) from the engine compartment were shorted. I swapped them out and the speedometer now works just fine and I know it is very accurate because I checked it with GPS. I ordered the wires online and it installed in just a few minutes. Thanks for the help.
