Great price.Rust is not bad for an old car.If you really like the old Z's and are willing to put some money into it I say go for it.

Nice find. I really like these cars and my brother was actually looking to buy one last year. I think he lost interest, but these look pretty good for the price. I also say if you are looking for an old Z, go for it.

OMG! :ylsuper If I knew where the cars were, I'd buy them both myself! Thats an excellent price! The '72 240Z has everything I'm trying to add to my '73 240Z -- my race car conversion project.

As to the 280ZX engine -- its only the block (not the entire engine), and, no, it doesn't suck the combination is absolutely awesome. BTW, ZXT -- "ZX" means "luxury" and "T" means its a turbo. With the Webers, that car will haul ass. What engine do you think the legendary race car driver Steve Millen used in his Z Car on the track -- a 280ZX block. The '72 is my choice -- appears to have new floor pans also (a $1,000 expense). Be sure to check the frame rails (all unibody) for rust, though. I noticed the battery area is rusty, but that is common in the 240Z -- also check the firewalls thoroughly -- surface rust is not a problem -- press on the rusted area just to be sure its still solid.

Also, if you are planning to use the '72 as a daily driver, then you might want to get the '73 instead. The '72 it isn't street legal in its present condition. The exhaust modifications alone will get you an instant "driving award". And, the insurance on the '72 -- outrageous at your age.

If you have a good driving record, you might be able to get insurance through State Farm or Allstate at a good rate. I use Allstate -- I'm much older than you, so it wouldn't do you any good for me to quote you my rate (on 5 Z's, lol).

P.S. If you don't want the cars, maybe I do -- are they in CA?

im still deciding if i wanna make a plunge into them, but yes they are in cali. so the insurance will be more on the 72 than on the 73? and why isnt the 72 street legal?

Oh, sorry, I misread the ad -- the '72 has the 280ZX Turbo engine, which is what he's referring to as an F54 block and P90 head -- an awesome creature. The '72 isn't street legal because of the hi-flo muffler. You could change out the exhaust to make it street legal, but you'd only end up with a less noisy gas hog. Also, the Weber carbs might not do so well if you drive in stop-and-go traffic -- and you might be left for road kill. That car is equipped for racing -- add a roll cage, 5-pt. racing harness, slicks and hit the track. Otherwise, I wouldn't recommend that one for you.

The '73 would be the best choice for daily driving, and with the stock, unmodified engine, the insurance would be much more reasonable.

Damn, sure wish I lived in CA -- I'd be hauling both of those cars home right now on a flatbed. BTW, did you know the bone stock value of those cars is presently between $2,500-3,000?

P.S. The insurance on the '72 will be much higher than the '73 because it basically has a "Boeing 747" under the hood -- the faster you go, the harder you crash.

Cool! So, you're already named him, huh? Sounds like you're already hooked. Its easy when its a Z. I had to name all of my cars, just so I could figure out which key went to each car, using corresponding cartoon character key chains. LOL! Good luck convincing the parents. If you get it, let me know, and I'll send you several links to buy parts for it at really great prices (including body, OEM and aftermarket performance). You might also want to join the California Z Club. Our Georgia club has a lot of fun -- shows, racing and other events!
