Automatic Shift Controls problem

We had 2007 Jeep Commader & just lately we noticed that the shift controls Park, Reverse, Nuetral & Drive were all activated & shows at the electronic vehicle information, then suddenly the malfunction indicator light looks like loose or missing gas cap will also indicate. The car still run but looks like it may loose the power although if you stop & put it on park & put it in drive it still runs as nothing happens.
Any advice will highly appreciated.
