I drive 56 miles to work, once I reach work truck is running a bit rough. After work about 10 miles on the way home check in light comes on. By the time I get back home truck is running very rough. Shop cant find anything wrong. So far I have replaced fuel pump, plugs/wires, distributor cap and rotar. Keep reading P0171 code. This is on a 96' Ram 1500 2WD 130K miles 5.2L

Re: 1500 dodge engine question
P0171 Fuel System Lean.
A lean air/fuel mixture has been indicated by an abnormally rich correction factor. The O2 sensor is telling the computer that the exhaust is lean so the computer tells the injectors to richen up. Normally this communication keeps the air/fuel mixture in top shape but if the O2 sensor sends the computer misinformation, the process gets out of whack, as you well know now. I'd look for an air leak. Broken or cracked vacuum line, loose intake or throttle body bolts. All help gratefully accepted.

Re: 1500 dodge engine question
Hello albert.iowa, Chris gives good advice first check for vacuum leaks. Have you replaced the 02 sensor before? Check it and the wiring. Actually there are quite a few items that can cause this problem.
