Need a Kiwi or aussie volunteer
I need someone whos has lots of free time and access to a junkjard for a task.
first hear me out. I was calling around in Montreal for a set of motor mounts for my B16 when i called one shop who quoted me like 120$ cnd... i was like... hmmm that's cheap who makes em ?... energy suspension I was like those are the motor mounts I need the B-Series mounts then we talk for a few minutes to find out these guys don't use them when doing a swap. they said it bolts in ! I was like whatever your full of shit... but got to thinking... he may be right, what are the chances the motor mount locations are any different on an SiR than an Si ? that would have ment 2 different chassis for the civic and 2 diffecrent ones for the CRX ... not cost effective. if the motor mount location are the same i figure stock SiR (88-91) mounts would fit OR even D-series mounts... maybe this motor mount this is a scam we all bought into. So i wanna put this Myth to bed and figure out the lowdown. so if anyone has access to this information please post it below.

the mount thing is not a scam man, you can easily see the difference of the mount locations of the b series to the D's

The EF8 and EF9 from the firewall forward are differnt cars.
All new unique pressings are used, to give the car the extra strength required to handle the increase in power, as well cornering loads, and to mount the Integra based subframe and frount suspension. I know ppl here in NZ who have tried mounting the EF9 subframe into an EF6, and it simply dosn't match up. And Iv been offered for sale, the EF9 frount end chassis stamps and dies that Honda Japan had included in a list of cheap parts for sale they sent to Honda NZ. (all old stock, part of a warehouse clreance) (I couldn't afford them obviously) There are also differnces in the back of the chassis as the rear suspension mounts in a slightly differnt location. The EF9 is a very unique beast. Honda made a lot of changes to the EF base in order to handle the extra demands the B16a put on it, and I really do worry about you yanks swapping the B16a into a chassis that was never designed to take it. Quite simply no matter how much work you do the car it will never be as good as a genuine SiR. All this may sound expesive but This may sound expensive, but they still did a lot of parts sharing, and I think its bassed very closely on the Integra (they use the same frount subframe, and I think lower suspension arms) And when sold new in Japan they cost twice as much as an Si. The car was built as a show case of the new DOHC VTEC technology, and to meet homolgation requirements for Group N racing in Japan and world rallys. (Honda compaigned a Works car in several rounds of the World Rally Chapionship, untill it was rolled here in NZ, where it remains and is still rallyed by the ex GM of Honda NZ) Honda would not have minded lossing a few $$ on the car, as it would have been made back up in sales of other models. Buying mounts is how ever still an expensive exercise, but unless you have access to a full machine shop and someone with the skills to do it then its still the easiest alternative. However if you are luckey enough to have access to the machinery and skills required it would be cheaper and easier to actualy make your own new engine mounts. (you need access to a rubber or urathan moulder etc etc)

Yep - mounts mount forward of the ED points and the chassis members are different. You could drill out and weld in the EF mounts, but you'd have to make sure they matched.

it might be too much to expect you to know about EDM cars but i got a coupla question for ya...
does that go for the EDM VTI? as in, that used the beefier suspension and the stuff from the SIR yes? it has a b16a as you know, so can i assume the rest of it is pretty much the same? or is the vti just like an american SI but with a B16 and the different bumpers/lights/bonnet? also, does the EDM VTI have the LSD? or is that a JDM only thing too? just wondering cause i shall be purchasing a uk spec vti as soon as my bank manager will let me! |

I know several VTi owners who all cliam to have experianced gains after installing an SiR ECU. I believe the LSD was an option like it was in Japan. Certianly has the same brakes and I believe suspension set up that the SiR has, which combined with the B16a make it one of the most entertianing and exhilerating cars I have ever been luckey enough to own and drive. (you just have to thrash the shit out of it )
