997 GT3RSR Flying Lizard #80

I am also starting my build on my Flying Lizard 997 GT3RSR.

This is the car I will be building.

I received my Fujimi GT3R kit yesterday and for the conversion I have a Carrerra Digital RSR body on the way from Germany.

I have also ordered the decals from Decaldoc and am crossing my fingers that the quality will be good. I will also be ordering the Scale Production PE kit and window masks. I was going to order their GT3RSR wheels, but they are not listed on their site anymore. What is the next best alternative? The Hobby Design ones look like they may be ok.

I was trying to find some reference for the interior so I can get started on that and found this picture of the front of the cockpit, but still looking for a rear picture.

I would suggest to wait for the coming soon updated BBS. Mike recently posted a shot:

http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul....php?t=1067432

…so I guess they will be available in a short period. Also note that the Scale Production BBS have the correct spokes concavity and feature separate lock nuts and spokes to be coupled to a turned aluminium rim. I had the previous metallic release and I have to say they are perfect.

Check these links for possible references:

Flying Lizard also attended the ALMS:

Re: 997 GT3RSR Flying Lizard #80

I actually saw those inserts yesterday, but for some reason they are listed under slot racing wheels so I didn't think they would work. what barrels and lips could I use them with? There really isn't any info on the page.

I have actually seen the ALMS in my home town a few times and the Flying Lizard cars were always my favorite.

Here is a pic I took of one.

I guess Mike is preparing the alu rims to issue the final version of the BBS in 1/24... Be a bit patient.

Nice photo

Re: 997 GT3RSR Flying Lizard #80

My Carerra RSR body showed up yesterday. But there was only one side window included. I am not sure if I should try to mod the GT3R glass to fit the carrera body or if I can get a replacement side window.

Nick, you have a PM.

Anyway, you should consider to use the side window you got as a template to scribe a new side window on clear acetate.

EDIT - Further option could be using the Scale Production specific window frames as jig:

Saw these in another thread and they will come in handy when doing the decals.

Re: 997 GT3RSR Flying Lizard #80

Finally got around to working on the model. I started by modifying the chassis to fit the Carrera body. Thanks to Sam I made similar modifications and it fits good now.

The car I am building is the 2011 RSR and the Carrera kit is a pre 09 model with the old tail lights. The Fujimi kit however uses the post 09 tail lights. I decided to try and swap rear ends between the two kits. I took some measurements and it seems like it will be possible.

Then I decided to bite the bullet and cut the rear ends off each kit.

I still need to do some trimming to the Fujimi part, but I think it will work.

Re: 997 GT3RSR Flying Lizard #80

jedi801 - that body cut was brilliantly done - very clean and looks like it will go together quite well. I suppose I will have to do the same when I build the "orange" car. When I receive my RSR bodies from Germany I will build the Blue car first as there are very few modifications to the body if any. What did you use to make your cut with? a PE razor saw? or xacto blade? Also how did you open up the rear "extra" engine vent on rear Fujimi piece - what kind of tool did you use? Thanks jedi - John

Re: 997 GT3RSR Flying Lizard #80

I used a brand new x-acto knife for all the cuts. I used the body lines to score them deeper with the knife and just kept working at it until I was all the way through. It is a good thing the Fujimi kit is a bit wider. I was able to sand down the cuts a bit to get a better fit than what is pictured above. I made some mounts and the bumper is now attached. I'll post some pics later tonight. as for the engine vent, I used an x-acto to cut that out too and then a small file to clean it up. I still need to clean it up a bit more as there are still a few rough edges.

Here are some pics of the bumper mounted. It still needs to be cleaned up a bit.

Re: 997 GT3RSR Flying Lizard #80

Looks good Nick - did you trial fit the tail light pieces for proper fitting? also maybe the adjustments to the undertray would be different with this rear bumper clip? since the Fujimi undertray is now aligning with the back of the Fujimi body not the RSR body?? Just a thought. Either way this is very helpful to making the builds - John

Re: 997 GT3RSR Flying Lizard #80

yeah I did test the tail lights and they fit good. As for the chassis, if you are going this route you don't need to modify the rear. You also get to use the Fujimi mounts that are in the bumper.

Re: 997 GT3RSR Flying Lizard #80

I was looking at some pics of the orange car and noticed that the front bumper only uses the lower carnard. So I filled the slot the upper one is supposed to go in with putty and smoothed it out.

I also cut out the openings in the rear bumper and filled the gap between the bumper and body. I will scribe a new panel line there.

And I finally got my decals from Decal Doc. For the most part the quality is good, but there are a few small white splotches on some of them, especially in the dark blue of the rear wing area.
