250 before the 600

ok, I want to buy a CBR 600RR soon, and ill have the cash in a few months, but in a week or two Ill got the money for a new ninja 250.

now I just wanna know, if i go and offer 3k cash OTD, you think they will take it, cuz MSRP is and taxes cant be much on 3k, so I figure they'll still mnake some dough outta the deal. if I get it I plan on riding it for like 3-4 months (maybe more, maybe less depending pon how quick I fel comfortble with it. so my question is how much would a 02 ninja 250 in (hopefully) perfect condition with say 1500-2000 miles on it sell for. cuz I dont wanna lose much money.

I looked for used ones on cycle trader and in the papaer but none are selling around here, but others are used and are still 2600-2900 but on the pother side of the US but i figure I would lose no mnore than 500 bucks hopefully.

It's good to see you value your life more then getting some poser points. You'll be around much longer to enjoy the sport.

250's generally keep a high resale value and selling them usually isn't much of a problem at all. Definately buy a used one if you can for $1000-$2500. You could easily sell it off for the same price if not more then you payed for it. If you bought a brand new one, my guess is that when you sold it, you would be down about $500-$1000.

If you've checked your local paper, looked at classifieds on motorcycle forums and still can't find a 250 for sale, THEN find a dealership. $3000 cash would probably bait them in well. TRY TRY TRY for a used one b/c they do get dropped, they do fall over from forgetfullness about putting the kickstand down, etc. Good luck, and we're glad that you are being a bit more sensible about this.

well, none around here, found a maxim 82 650 for 1150, 81 CX500 for 1300, 82 sabre 750 for 985, 82GL500 for 1000.

there was a 90 ZX7 supposedly with 2k on rebuild, muzzy exhaust, jet kit, new tires/battery and fresh paint. for 2,000 but even though they probably werent as "tuned up" back then, its still probably too much.


I acant really find too much older small stuff. and I might drop it riding it, but it isnt gonna fall cuz I forgot the kickstand, I aint gonna let that happen, and Id let no one else ride it just in case.

I'm telling you for fact that if you search harder, you'll find some more stuff. Look on MOTORCYCLE forums. Try Cycle Forums in their classifieds. Try Sportbike World in their classifeds. I think Sportbikes.net is still up and running. Look there, too. Then there's always Cycle Trader Online Try to search places within a 20 mile radius. I usually look in a 50 mile radius b/c you get more results thus more choices. You'd be surprised how willing most people are to help you with transportation and meeting points if you don't live close to eachother. Keep up the search for 250s and 500s. They're out there, I promise.
