1/12 Mustang Shelby GT-350

This was build from the old Road and Track kit from the early 80`s. It is a *very* difficult kit if you are trying to get the body lines accurate. I don`t plan on ever building another unless the body is seriously updated. Many modifications were made to get this thing presentable. Not sure if you can tell, but this build was not a very pleasant experience. []

Sweet, these 1/12 models look intimidating to me. Clean build.

i really like the retractable antenna on the rear deck of your model. you must of had a good time massaging the doors and window wings with this kit. the engine is definitely the highlight of this build.

Re: 1/12 Mustang Shelby GT-350

Very good paintjob with an amazing shine !
The engine picture is so good it looks very real !!
The problems you had doesn't show here , but what about the interior, do you have any pictures ? I build mainly kit in the 12:th scale myself so I'm very
interested in this.

regards
Thomas

Re: 1/12 Mustang Shelby GT-350

Thanks alot guys!
I wish I had pictures of the body before I started, gridjockey. I could swear the doors, which open out of the box, were molded on a completely seperate mold, as not only were the gaps way off, but the curves and contours we just completely different when compared to the adjacent panels. It took alot of heavy sanding and filling to get right...and lots of high-build primer. I probably took about three scale inches out of the bottoms of the rear quarter panels to get them fold under the car like on the 1:1 as the go toward the rear. I had to fill the panel lines in the back and create new ones because of it. Out of the box, the mold is very boxy and toy like. I also modified the coves in the side, because they were completely flat and straight, no curve at all to them...just a rectangle cut out of the sides. Here is a pic of the non-Shelby version of this kit which shares the same body:

Thanks Maysula. Here are some pics of the interior, and the trunk which I forgot to post. The roll bar was made from aluminum tubing. The fire extinguisher is from the vette kit.
It`s a little dusty in these pics since it had been sitting around for a while:

Re: 1/12 Mustang Shelby GT-350

Probably as much work as restoring a real one. Should be just as satisfying once the memories wear off a little.

NICE engine bay from me as well.
