Power steering is rocking

Transport 1998, 3.4l; In the last 2 years I noticed a very light rocking steering completely to the right or to the left. It isn’t a smooth steering any more. Where could this come from?

Not quite sure what you are saying. Is there excessive play in the steering? Is the problem there when turned to full lock both ways?

No there is no excessive play, the steering is smooth until about a quarter turn before full lock. Only then I feel a slight rocking in the steering wheel.
