I did mine a couple of years ago, there should be a notch in the timing belt cover and a mark in the sprocket IIRC.
Did you go over the 60,000 mile limit? If so, you're on borrowed time after that I think. I would also recommend changing the water pump and associated pulleys while you're right there, might save some headaches later on. Next time I do one of these, I'm going to get a kit from Ebay, comes with the whole package.
