Question I am looking for the roadcar specific tires

Hello,

Maybe,, it's already known on the forum.

I am looking for exact specifications for tires. I found two brands :
goodyear F1 or Michelin SX-MXX3

I would like to know if they are specific or common. If specific, which are the letters like velocity, mass etc...

I must be 100% sure. If you know a owner who changed them for other ones, I am also interested.

Thank you in advance.

Phil

Re: I am looking for the roadcar specific tires

"Velocity", as in speed rating?
It's whatever is the highest rating (Z?), but that rating is meaningless, because it only indicates "at least" such-and-such a speed. All other letter ratings indicate a maximum "safe" speed.

Goodyear made the tyres originally. A couple of years into production, Michelin wanted to produce a tyre for the car, in order to get the kudos that they thought would come with being an official tyre supplier.
Side by side, the factory preferred the Michelins, and they became standard. Goodyear continued to produce their version for several more years (I think they ceased to offer them only in about '03 or so).
The Goodyears were available on-line or through one's local dealer.
In contrast, Michelin signed an exclusive contract with the factory, and the factory was the only place in the world from which could get them.

I don't know what the Goodyears weighed, but the Michelins weigh 8.85kg F and 13.45 kg R.
They have a wear rating of 140.

No other car is designed to use these sizes (IIRC, 235/45/17 and 315/45/17), and, unless there were a very unusual need, there would be no point in paying what is now more than £5,000/set for particular tyres that were not essential to a purpose. For that matter, I doubt that the factory would sell a set to anyone other than an F1 owner.

Not too much to add to what has already been said, but these are the specific tire names and associated sizes and fitments:

F1 road cars:

Goodyear Eagle F1 - Front: 235/45ZR17 / Rear: 315/45ZR17

Michelin Pilot Sport SX FZ - Front: 235/45ZR17 / Rear: 315/45ZR17

F1 High Downforce Kit / Road-converted F1 GTRs:

Michelin Pilot Sport SX - Front: 275/35ZR18 / Rear: 345/35ZR18

Flemke's upgrade - OEM tires from the Ferrari Enzo:

Bridgestone Potenza Scuderia RE050A - Front: 245/35ZR19 / Rear: 345/35ZR19

The former were first used on the LMs.
IIRC, Flemke started with the Enzo 245 on the front, but ended up using a similar 235.
Sorry for the pedantry.

No trouble - we often admire pedantry here. I will update my notes, and thanks!
