No throttle cables available for 1999

The throttle cable snapped/ came apart on my '99 24v on the way to work this morning. The little orange plastic grommet/clip which attaches the cable to the pedal broke. I managed to hold it in place temporarily with a wire clip. The car needed new tires and a right front wheel bearing anyways so I took it my local mechanic. He called back an hour later stating that there were no new throttle cables (or that little orange plastic piece, which I think cannot be bought separately) in the USA, either from Ford or other parts shops. Ford told him it's a discontinued part. He had one sent over from a scrapyard and the clip was chewed up on that one. So he's going to rig something together. I can't possibly imagine that replacement parts are getting scarce for this car. It only has 125k on it and still runs great.

Re: No throttle cables available for 1999

I checked Fast Parts Network and all the throttle cables show up as "discontinued" as well, but since there is still a price listed, you could contact Torrie there and see if he can get you a Ford OEM one. You can still add the cable to the shopping cart. I wonder if the aftermarket has taken over production of these parts. Considering all the relatively recent media regarding sticking throttles I'm surprised your shop would be willing to take on the possible liability of rigging something together.

Good luck!
