Which car would be fast and cheaper a modified cooper S or a turbo cooper? How much hp could you get out of the S's supercharger? Also what about transmisions 6 or 5? does the 6 speed on the S give it a big advantage or no?

Well, the difference between the Cooper S and a Turbo Cooper would be that the Cooper S has a supercharger, and a turbo would obviously have a turbo. Just gotta take into consideration what you would rather have.
The supercharger is going to give you instant speed, off the line it will be faster than a turbo Cooper. A supercharger and turbo charger are both forced induction systems giving you more HP. The main difference is where these systems get their power. The supercharger is actually connected to the engine by a belt, it gets its power from the engine. A turbo charger gets its power from the exhaust system, with air running through a turbine which winds up. This means that you aren't getting your power with a turbo until you get up to speed a little bit. You could probably modify a Cooper S for less money, considering you'd have to go aftermarket for a Turbo for the standard Cooper. If you got a standard Cooper and put the supercharger on later, that might be better. Not sure. Anyways, hope this helps at all...

a super will not nesicarily give you better power of the line, it's a matter of matching the right turbo to the engine.

Well, in theory any turbo wouldn't give you serious boost until higher RPM's, but I'm not an expert, so you might be right. I just thought since the turbo used air to turn the turbine, you needed air to be running through it, therefore, more boost at a higher RPM.

get the cooper, put a turbo on it. Whats great about this is, no one thinks it has much power when they see it drivin' on the street, but when you hammer it WATCH OUT!

A turbo without doubt with ease of tuning cost max power .ect
A super charger is great for low end up to 50% rpm then really saps power out off the crank The only downs for turbo are low end hp and torque but this can be got around with an anti-lag system for quick off line speed and low end Most after market ECU's worth there salt can have this function HOW it works It pre-spools the turbo at stand still and when you lift your foot off the Go faster peddle By retarding ignition and letting the fuel mix burn in the manifold Which spools the turbo when the system is on? All the rally cars use them And also very few tuning parts for the supercharge you could probably raise boost to a max of 15psi give it a new pulley and reprogram the ECU then it will get diabolically expensive But it is down to you Recommend ball bearing garret turbo stainless steel manifold 2.5” down pipe Motec ECU bespoke front mount intercooler (upgraded brakes) |

Re: Mini S or Mini T
Well, I have been an owner of a Cooper S 2002, and it has proved to be a very practical car, fun to drive, and has nearly everything I would want from a small car.
I mean, the S handles great in the city, but on the motorways, the top end isnt as much as I expected, the 5th and 6th gear is very similar, a bit close for my liking. A little more low end grunt would also be nice too.. I was thinking of tuning too, but then it might affect my 5 year TLC cover. The Cooper Works official upgrade is only pushing it to 200bhp. But there are many other options for a cheaper price (3500UKP) than the official upgrade. have a look at these guys, they seem very friendly and open to options.. http://www.amdtechnikusa.com/minicoopers.asp Depends how fast u want to go, but I think keeping the supercharger would be your best bet. 275bhp would be so thirsty... Hopw this helps.. |

Re: Mini S or Mini T
lets see...
i did some research and the "cooper" has 115 hp the turbo kit increases horsepower by 30%, and an efficiency of 200+ hp, which is 34.5 hp so you will have 149.5 hp. That will cost you $2000 dollars not including installation. The "cooper S" has 163 hp. So basically to sum it all up, if you buy a cooper and spend $2000 on a turbocharger you still wont have as much horsepower as the stock cooper S. but it all depends on whether you like turbochargers or superchargers. i hope i could be of help. |

Re: Re: Mini S or Mini T
Turbos are more adjustable than a supercharger! You can buy a boost and and a $16 boost controller for a turbo app. and bump the boost up or down anytime you want. With a supercharger you have to buy a belt upgrade and when you do that, you're stuck with the, lets say, 10psi upgrade as to with the turbo, you can drop the boost down to 5 or 6 psi for cruisng around town and then when a riced out civic pulls up beside you and thinks his car is the shizzle, you can turn the boost up to 12psi just to show him that you aren't playin' any games (you would need a fancy electronic boost controller for this though).
Personally, I would want a turbo! Quote:
