98 S-10 starting
4 cyl,
Sits in the driveway for a month during the summer and starts right up. Try it again a few days later and it barely fires and the battery just about runs down before I can get it going. Where to start. Runs perfect otherwise. No codes Anything you'd try? |

Re: 98 S-10 starting
Test that battery. I had that happen to me before. It would actually make my truck stall when driving. My battery had a bad cell

So, whats happens with the new battery installed? Still a crank, no start?

It's like the wires are wet even though they're not. Usually starts fine, but every now and then for no apparent reason, it just barely fires on 1 cylinder and then eventually starts |

Re: 98 S-10 starting
You need to check fuel pressure and spark when it's acting up.

starter operation is normal but engine does not run. fuel pressure testing also plug wires/distributor cap/rotor connectors to it need cheecking out. plug wires need be ohm tested if out of spec and wires look hard cracked miss routed melted replace. plug wires need proper fastening as built. 1998 vehicle these plastic holders fail causing the plug wires to get damaged. place some dieelectric grease in the plug wire boot ends to prevent new wires from damage..this also helps when removing them. |
