1998 SL2 Help?

1998 SL2 with 103,000 miles. Bought it used and now have a problem with running out of gas? Top it off and when approx 5 gallons is gone...slightly over 1/2 tank. car will not run above 2k rpms. If you are on the freeway it dies you can start it back up instantly and drive slow to the gas station. Fill it back up and away you go. 150miles on a tank is not going to cut it.
HELP?

Comments suggestions?
Fuel pump pickup?
Any thoughts?

If it is the pickup or the fuel pump...how hard is it to drop the tank?

Thanks in Advance.
Al

I have the same problem, but not until 1/8 tank. They say that replacing the fuel filter will solve it, but I haven't fixed it, because my wife and I share a car, adn don't have the time to get it fixed.

I cleaned the fuel screen on the pump and replaced the fuel filter. Have not had a problem since.

How difficult is it to change the fuel filter yourself?

10 minutes...but the part is nearly $100. I think it has a fuel pressure regulator built in.

Is there a number on the fuel filter? A mechanic told me that he has the same car (98 Saturn SL2) and used a Ford filter. Thanks!

Bhargavi.

I don't think it did. Had a Saturn part number on the box. I heard that it has a built in regulator also that is why it is so expensive. But not confirmed.
