New exhaust for 2000 Honda Civic DX

I've got a 2000 Civic and I'm looking at replacing the stock exhaust system with a newer and better performance system. Does anybody have any suggestions as to what I should look for? I'd be using it with the stock engine. If anybody can give me any advise or suggestions I'd be happy to hear them. Thanks!

Any particular manufacturer preferences I should look at? Also, can anybody explain to me a little about this catback and thermal R&D stuff? Sorry to sound like such a total newb., but I want to actually make some worthwhile changes to my car, but don't have much experience w/ cars yet.

a catback system is piping and a tip from the end of your catalac (sp?) converter and 2 1/4 piping is all the piping which is 2 1/4 in diameter (sp?)

No offense, but some of us aren't used to posting in forums constantly. I'm only searching for some helpful advise and not a hard time. If you don't want to reply, don't.

Also, I just realized that the main thing I need to be looking at is a header to get some good results. Any good advise on a header without spending a fortune?

5zigen (i am biased towards this one)
Greddy
Apexi
HKS
Thermal
Mugen

and so many more.

Now for a header

No problem. I didn't want to get all bitter, but I'm a newb and trying to understand some of the other posts might be confusing to me. All I want is a better DX and I know people here can help...hehe. Thanks for the understanding.

Ok, well, here's some background info. on the mods I've done so far....
AEM Cold Air Intake
Revo manually adjustable springs
16" Enkei Wheels w/ Yokohama Tires
Civic EX instrument panel (wanted the tach)
Mugen reverse indiglo gauge faces

I'd like to upgrade the exhaust (including header) and then get a body kit at some point. I'd like to do the performance stuff before looks though... well, for the most part.

Being a DX and wanting to upgrade the headers as well, that brings you to whole new ball game. You MUST get an exhaust made for EX trim Civics, as the catalytic converter in DX's is built INTO the stock header unfortunately. So get an exhaust made for a Civic EX ,and then when you get headers, just get a Civic EX spec cat and bolt that in between the headers you get and the exhaust system. Also you'll need to lengthen the 2nd o2 sensor wires to reach behind the new cat, or else you'll get stuck with an annoying check engine light being always on.

For exhausts, I have the A'PEXi World Sport system on my '00 Civic DX coupe, and I absolutely LOVE it. It's not loud except when full on the throttle, and it sounds very nice and deep. No complaints here.

Hmm. That's very interesting. So am I slowly turning my car into an EX? That's kind of how it's starting to look...hehe. How much of a performance boost will I get out of all of this?

I just did some looking around... For a whole new exhaust sytem I need a new header, cat. converter and rear end, right? Looks like that'll cost ~$900 or more.... does this sound right or am I doing something wrong?

Yeah, that sounds about right. As for power gains, you'll get some, nothing big though, but a complete exhaust system from the headers back will definitely free up the breathing of the engine and you'll notice a bit more responsiveness. HP wise you probably won't gain anymore than 10hp. But still, it'll make a difference.

Will adding a better exhaust system help my low end acceleration at all?
