1999 door lock problem

I am having several issues with my suburban. The first is the driver door will lock but will not unlock from switch. the actuator is ok. I have a short to ground on 1 wire and I'm having trouble tracing it. Do all actuators run in parallel or is there a module feeding them independently? If parallel where do they tie together?
The other problems I have are the Key fob no longer works and dome light doesn't come on when door is opened. Can these be related or different issues altogether?

Welcome to AF

'99-'00 were transition years from Old Body Style(looks like a '96) to New Body Style(looks like an '01).

Please tell us what you have. OBS or NBS as the electronics are completely different between the two.

Re: 1999 door lock problem

I have a 95 suburban and been with her since birth. My driver's sidedoor lock doesnt unlock but locks and I know why.... had the window open a crack when a puddle went over the roof. Water drip drip dripped in the open window, right on my manual door lock control and it never worked since. I think kinda like when you get water on your key board. So now I use the key fobs to lock, unlock still works.

make a list of other parts you need and go to the scrap yard. my area you have a good selection.

it may be the switch that is n/g. could also be a bad connection to the switch ..

If you hear the actuator working, and it does not move the latch, you probably have one of the rods disconnected. I went through all the crap of taking the door panel off, replacing the inner handle mechanism, replacing the outer door handle/mechanism, etc. --- and shortly after the outside lock stopped working with the actuator. In fact, even though I hear the door(s) "locking", the driver door won't respond unless I use the key on the outside. It's not worth taking it all apart again, and I know getting all the rods in place is a PITA, so i just live with it. No big deal.

Re: 1999 door lock problem

Oh you can hear the doors unlock from 30 feet away if the fob is working. Mine came with 2 fobs, I replaced the battery in one of them only in 15 years. Press once for drivers door alone, twice for the rest. Canadian Tire had the batteries. My inside drivers door lock switch doesnt work either like I said, but I choose not to fix it because both my fobs work. So agree with the last post, but might fix it if I ever have that door panel off again - say like for another one of those door handles that dont last.

And that dome light has an off and on button right where you turn your lights on and adjust your interior dimness. It's the little round one with no indication to what it is for. I didnt know about it for years after owning the truck.
