Re: Japan Osaka store
First place I would try is Tokyu Hands. It's not strictly a hobby shop, but the hobby section should be worth the visit.

Re: Japan Osaka store
Close to Umeda Station - which is the main station for Osaka - is Yodobashi Camera. http://g.co/maps/ub7a7 It's a multi-level department store/mall. It's easiest to enter from the subway arcade, there's no direct street crossing from Umeda station. In the main section, I forget which level, maybe level 3 there is a large toy and game and hobby section. Plenty of car kits, accesories and paints here! In fact, almost every large electrical retailer has a decent selection of plastic kits in their store, so anywhere you go keep an eye out for "Joshin" or "Yamada Denki". They're everywhere!
If you have time, try to visit Den Den town, it's Osaka's electronic and hobby area. Lots of different stuff here, including a massive 5 level Joshin store dedicated entirely to hobbies, if I remember correctly it's called Super Joshin Kid's Land, or something like that. If it's not here, it never existed! Some real bargains too, even more than the eye wateringly low regular Japanese prices. Consider buying up and sending stuff home by mail if you can, the mail isn't cheap but the kits sure are. Den Den Town is close to Ebisucho station, use exit 1-B. The store is north of the exit about 100 metres or so, on the left side of the street. You'll walk past a few smaller stores too, which are worth checking out. Oh, and have fun!

Re: Japan Osaka store
I second Joshin, lots of kits and aftermarket parts there.
If you have time there is also a shop called "Hobby Kansuke" that deals with used/discontinued kits. Their prices are reasonable, last time I was there I bought a Tamiya Jeep Wrangler soft top and a Tamiya Lexus LS400 for around $60 USD. They are located on R25. If you get off the subway at Daikokucho station, exit at Exit 5 or 6, walk west on R25 for 5 mins, after you have walked past the police station and a parking lot, you will see a business building called "エネミス・アーク". The shop is on 2nd floor. If you search for "大阪府大阪市浪速区大国3-1-25" in Google Maps, you will see that store on 2/F of that building. They have a map on their web site as well: http://www.kansuke.net/kaisya.html Note that they are only open on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, 13:00-20:00. Took me quite a while to find it as I didn't know the direction back then and the building doesn't really stand out on the street, but I think it's worth the time. |
