How can I tell if my 2001 Sunfire (Cavalier) has or had keyless entry?
I just bought a 2001 Pontiac Sunfire. Today I noticed there is a factory mechanical trunk release device on latch. There are no switches etc inside the car for it. The car has power locks. Where and what would I look for to tell?
If it does have the system in the car how could I tell which remote to get? Also the factory radio has been replaced with an aftermarket unit. Would this prevent the system from working on this car? |

OK, I've determined I do have the keyless entry option for my vehicle. If I were to order a used remote off ebay would I have to have it programmed by a dealer or could I do it myself?

Re: How can I tell if my 2001 Sunfire (Cavalier) has or had keyless entry?
One way to check to see if you have keyless entry, is to check the SPID label, or go to any GM dealership, give them your VIN #, and ask for a printout of the "Vehicle Build".....this gives you the Spid and also, what each code means.....look for the keyless entry code....
If you have keyless entry, that actuator in the trunk should have an electrical harness going to it.....look at the hush panel under the driver's side dash....should be a button there for the trunk release.....it will only work, if the lever on the trunk actuator is in the correct position...... Not sure if you can program it yourself, may need a dealer's Tech II scanner to do it....also it is imperitive that, you get the correct transmitter for your model, make, and year.....the transmitters have numbers on the back of the fobs...... |
