ACT Clutch

Ok put in my ACT clutch and it engages really low on the pedal. I tryed to adjust it but it was already adjusted all the way out. Is this normal or what can i do to fix it? There is a lot of play in the pedal to where if i flick the pedal with my foot it rockets back out cause there is no resistance???

Did you get an ACT pressure plate or just the clutch? If not, and the ACT clutch is thinner than your previous unit, that could be the reason. Under those circumstances, as far as I know, there's not a whole lot you can do to fix the problem. Either get used to it, or get yourself a new clutch

There is a fix... if you add a washer to your clutch cable, right where it kinda snaps into that bracket right up from the adjuster on the tranny, it will change the length of your cable (won't really, but it acts as though it does the same thing) and then you can adjust it from there. My clutch releases off the floor too, or did, until i put that washer in last week, now it's all better I think I may even have another washer laying around, but i did have to dremel out the inside for it to fit right, i can never find the perfect size anywhere. Oh well.

Cool JustinP10

Wow man, that's a great idea. That's really an awesome solution. I'll have to remember that one. Thanks :sun:

Like everything else I'll try and write something up with pictures on how to do it, as it's kinda tough to explain, but very easy to do (or show with pictures). Once this week is over, i'll have a LOT more freetime to get some of those done. School sucks. 4 tests in one week, and that's after going to SEMA last week and missing all the classes. DOH! (It was worth it though, SEMA kicks ass!)

I'm curious... did you lighten your flywheel yourself?
If so, you're either very very good at working on your car or just flat-out crazy!!

I had clutch specialties over in California do it. But most of your local machine shops can do the same. When I weighed it, it was about 13.5lbs when I got it back. Shipping weight was 21lbs. But that was in a box w/ the packing peanuts, my dumb ass forgot to weight just the flywheel. But i'd guess around 20-20.5lbs. I would highly recommend you NOT do this yourself... I little bit off on one side, and your whole drivetrain would probably get totally messed up

I've heard the horror stories of lightened flywheels breaking loose and flying through the air, with massive destructive force. Like breaking through the hood of the car without even slowing down, severing arms and other limbs, or outright killing people unlucky enough to be standing in the path of the rogue flywheels. Lightening your own flywheel is FUCKING DANGEROUS. Best leave it to professionals or else get yourself a professionally made lightened flywheel. Myself, I got a 9-pound aluminum "lightened" flywheel from ClutchMasters.
