What is the layout of a W engine...is it just a slightly diffrent V6 or something else altogheter.

the veyron has a W16 engine and i think the WV vr6 has also a W6 engine(not sure about this one though)

The VR6 engine is a "straight" engine with the cylinders in a very small angle so the cylinders can be mounted closer to eachother. This will make the engine very compact.

As what I've understand the W16 is two VR8 engines with an angle between them just like any V engine. The advantage should be that the engine will be very compact.

Right. A VR6 is basically a V6 with the angle between the cylinder centerlines so small it's almost an inline engine (15 degrees). Add another pair of cylinders, and you get a VR8. Put two VR8s together as if they were inline engines and you get a W16, whose bank angle is 72 degrees.

The W16 uses a single crankshaft.

Me and Chris were figuring this out when some guy came in with a website that has videos that show most dimensions and that of the engine, be patient with the if you have dial up, they are most definatley worth watching.

http://www.bugatti-cars.de

Enjoy!~

That's nothing, radial airplane engine can have over eight pistons - joined to a common crank! (yes one crank on the entire crankshaft!)

2, or 4, depending on how you look at it. Personally, a VR8 is used as an inline bank so I only see 2 banks.
