Jaguar C type LeMans winner 1/24

Been away from the bench for a while whilst visiting car shows and vintage race meets, been a good summer in the UK (or have I just been lucky)
Anyway, I have recently found the time to complete a couple of models I started a few months back.
First up is the 1953 Jaguar C type of Rolt and Hamilton winner of the Le Mans 24 hr race of that year. Jaguar did very well with C types taking 1st, 2nd and 4th place.
The kit is from K&R replicas, I managed to get this one for a lot less than retail off ebay, lucky me. It is built out of the box and painted with my own mix of BRG (actually a lot darker in real life-I need to get a modern camera!) The decals were hopeless and a major dissapointment but I persevered and I am not really happy with them. Body is resin with the rest of the kit being made up of white metal and etch. Overall, a nice kit and enjoyable to build. Personally I think the retail price is a little high for what you get.
So, have a look at the pics and let me have it.....

Thanks for looking and any comments.
Best regards, Steve.

Great job. Just more of such models from Le Mans.

Lovely build Steve - (yes it's hard to stay focussed on the model building when the weather is any way good) - but you've gotten this one just right. It's great to see something like this - it just ooozes character,
Cheers,
Regards,
Paul

Thanks for the encouraging feedback guys, much appreciated.
Paul, I do like your 'sign off quote' about accuracy. I strive for 'the look' more than having the right amount of rivets!

I'm glad you got around to finishing it. Whatever may be the shortcomings of the kit you've really offered us up something really nice. A very unusual subject, but super cool. It is kind of hard to tell from the photographs, but are the wheels as great as they appear to be?

Hi ChillyB,
glad you like the look of the wheels. The pics must make them look good as they are really quite simple, 2 layers of etch spokes divided by a white metal hub and pressed into white metal rims. I have seen better efforts but that having been said, etch spokes are still better than cast ones like South Eastern Finecast.
Regards, Steve.

Re: Jaguar C type LeMans winner 1/24

I really want a kit of the C-Type, can't believe there haven't been more readily available. I see the Nick Mason "La Carrera Panamerica" C-Type recreation here in Atlanta at local car shows, I even have the ultra-rare Pink Floyd La Carrera Panamerica VHS tape, which is very entertaining.

Shame that we can't get lucky enough for this to be a Tamiya kit

Beautiful job Steve. You say the kit is too expensive for what you get but the visual detail you've added and the neatness is a feast for the eye. You've nailed these charming old racers.
Post more builds!!!

Re: Jaguar C type LeMans winner 1/24

Hi Merlin, thanks for the comments. You got me thinking about the price again and perhaps I have been a bit unfair. In comparison to the price of Japanese multi-media kits, it does compare quite well, being less than half the price of the average MFH example (nearly a third of some retailers MFH prices) The K&R C type is the only game in town - as far as I know, I suppose that gives it an edge too!
Currently working on a Jaguar E type low drag coupe and McLaren M6A so more to come and plenty of classic and vintage stuff in the stash.
Best regards, Steve.

Very nice C-Type, a great finish of what I imagine was not a simple kit to achieve a decent result.

[size="5"]Thanks for the link, great stuff... A question, I see the decal cut on the hood line, does it means the door opens, hood opens and revels a superbly detailed engine? (...not)
