05 Uplander, thump on rear driver side
05 Uplander 2wd, standard suspension, 115k miles.
I have a loud thumping under the driverside rear. It sounds as though something is hitting the underside of the van when you run over a bump on the rear driver wheel. I've changed the shock to no avail. Any suggestions? |

Re: 05 Uplander, thump on rear driver side
These vehicles have a problem with the rear axle bushings causing noises, they may appear ok, but the rubber gets weak resulting in knock/thump type noise over bumps. They are the foreward most bushings where the axle bolts to the body.

Re: 05 Uplander, thump on rear driver side
Ya know, come to think of it, there was an oily residue on that bushing when I first noticed the noise. Is that bushing something that I can change in my driveway or will I need a press to get it out and back in?

Oh, and this does NOT have Independent Suspension. Everywhere I look online for that bushing defaults to parts for vans with IS. I don't have that.

Re: 05 Uplander, thump on rear driver side
Yeah, the bushing I'm talking about is for the straight axle (yours). It could be done in the driveway. If you have a ball joint press and can mix and match some adapters to install the bushing. That part of the axle is'nt very ridged, so it moves around alot it you try using a hammer. Just pay attention to how far through to push the bushing.
