How To: Remove & prep For Install Glass Pack in 1989 Ford F-250 5.8L
Greetings Today i will Be Explaining how to Remove Your Stock Exhaust From a Ford F-250 1989 Pickup Truck.....
What You Will Need: 1) Adjustment Wrench. 2) Reciprocating Saw. 3) Long Flat Head Screw Driver. 4) One or two Jack Stands. 5) Basic Mathematics of Geometry. TIME: 3 HOURS OR MORE! First Of You will want to look at the bottom of Your Vehicle & inspect it thoroughly. Under the bottem you should see a bulky catalytic converter, a Clamp in between it then the muffler after the clamp...... (NOTE there may be a steel plating covering your muffler if so start from step One. If No Steel Plating covering Skin Step Three.Step 1: Take your Flat Head Screw Driver Loosen the Two Giant Strap on Clamps... (NOTE) I recommend loosening the one closest to the catalytic converter. Step 2: Remove First Clamp and prepare for loosening the second one Make sure you hold the plate as it comes down (FOR MAXIMUM SAFETY). Set the Bottom plate on the ground away from you .... After that Take the piece on the top and push it off the top and pull from in between the drive shaft and the muffler..... (Be careful)! Step 3: Begin loosening the clamp between the muffler and catalytic converter with your Adjustment wrench (IF YOU MUD MAKE SURE YOU WHIP DOWN THE BOLTS )so the adjustment wrench will fit snug on the bolts... Step 4: After completely removing the clamp & Set Away From You with the two plates that cover the muffler(FOR YOUR SAFETY). Step 5: Take out your Reciprocating Saw and look to your left side of the muffler and or right (THERE SHOULD BE A HANGER) Begin Cutting the Hanger rods in half.. (BY CUTTING THESE THIS WILL SAVE YOU TIME) from fumbling around with the bolts that are hidden. Step 6: After Cutting Both Sides of the Hanger From the truck Your Exhaust should be a little more limp and durable. (CHECK) and see if your able to turning your exhaust by grabbing the top and bottom of your muffler and turning it (WHICH EVER WAY YOU CAN GET LEVERAGE) if it turns or does not turn (Proceed to rear Tail Pipe For Step 7. Step 7: Grab your exhaust tip and turn left and right (This Should Give You Optimum Turning leverage. until the rust Breaks Free. Step 8: Fallow The Exhaust Tip Until you see the Second Hanger. it should be a peace of rubber with metal attached to it.. Step 9: Use Your Reciprocating Saw and Cut the last hanger (Rubber Part First) After Place jack stand(s) Under Catalytic Converter. (THIS WILL SUPPORT YOUR CATALYTIC CONVERTER) so you dont upset your manifold gaskets. Step 10: After it drops down Wiggle Your Exhaust up and down... and turn left and right if Neeeded to pull it off (NOTE: USE A LITTLE BIT OF PULLING FORCE NOT A LOT) until the muffler and catalytic converter separate. Step 11: after it drops gentally let the tailpipe Up until the front of the muffler toward the catalytic converter touches the ground. (Skip Next Step if not Required) Step 12: Return to the front end toward the catalytic Converter and unbolt The Hanger Plate So the muffler Lies Down more flat on the tip (Toss Hanger Pieces in pile (AWAY FROM YOU) with the clamps, plates and other things that may have came off the bottom in process). Step 13: Return Back To Tail Pipe With your (RECIPROCATING SAW). Cut the Rest Of the hanger Tip off then Begin Working The Muffler and tailpipe out from in between the axle and rear gas tank if you have one ( NOTE You may require Jack Some Ride Heights Are Different Jack the rear only. (Watch out for Break Lines and tank lines). From Here you should be able to work the stock system out toward the catalytic converter... Step 14: After working out put muffler and tail pipe system (DROP THE EXHAUST SYSTEM IN THE BACK OF THE BED OR AWAY FROM TRUCK) Take The Two Big Clamp you took off in the beginning holding that held the steel plates on.... Put (ONE) around the catalytic converter Tighten it up (Just Enough) to have thumb space then slide the other one around the frame and threw the clamp that has the thumb space in between.. Tighten it up to where the catalytic is stable. And your Done Ready to install that Glass Pack.. Stay Tuned For the Installation of a of glass pack..... P.S SAVE THE CLAMP that was originally around the muffler system and cat opening..... NOT UNLESS YOU REPLACE IT ![]() Thank You NEXT [ HOW TO INSTALL GLASSPACK] on your 89 F-250: You Will Need: 1) A Rubber Mallet 2) The Previous Clamp that held the old muffler onto your cat (IF YOU HAVE NOT BROUGHT A NEW ONE). 3) Wrench/Socket Set For Tightening down the clamp. 4)Common Sense of direction By Alphabet and Shapes. 5) Exhaust Hanger From AutoZone. (UNLESS YOU HAVE ANOTHER RIG UP TO SAVE MONEY) (NOTE: LEGIT HANGER IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED) TIME: 5 MINUTES TO 20 TOPS. First off you want to check the size of your piping..... me personally i still have cats on..... 1) Check Piping (2 3/4 piping) are my messurments for my catalytic converter Outlet. 2) Order a 2.5/ 2 1/2 whole glass pack (Sizes and lengths may very if ordering from jegs.com) 3) Remove glass pack from box after receiving... 4) Look inside your glass pack there should be combs facing one way the combs look like (D)'s on the inside 5) Make sure the back side of the D is Facing Toward the Catalytic converter and the " )" shape is facing out from the converter (THIS PROCESS WILL HELP YOU INSTALL PROPERLY). 6) Slide the that puppy on(Twist If you have to)... then take your mallet and whack it down til it cant go up no further. (NOTE: DON'T HIT IT LIKE A MAD MAN ITS NOT A RACE!) 7) Use the clamp in which in the beginning of the tutorial i told you to keep.... 8) Hammer it onto the cat/glasspack where the two join together so the "U" fits snug 9) Bolt it down like so and done (YOU HAVE INSTALLED GLASS PACK)! NOTE: PLEASE BUY A HANGER THAT WILL HELP PREVENT FROM EXTRA MOVING AND OR FALLING OFF :P VROOM VROOM HAPPY TRAILS Good night folks thank this post comment it really would help boost my credability on here Last edited by chamblizi; 09-11-2011 at 02:22 PM.
