New and lovely photos of #028...

Somewhere in my Monterey experience thread I mentioned meeting a photographer on the patio at the McLaren Automotive tent who was interested in the F1 and having him tell me 20 minutes or so into our chat that he had been in one recently in the owner's garage and had the photos on his camera to share with me. Here they are - Mr Price has a collection that could fill the lawn at a show like Pebble Beach and all of his cars are not even pictured here.

If you are planning to share these photos anywhere else on the web, please rehost them and carry over the image credit provided below. Thanks!

These images are credited to Ittai Geiger (pronounced E-Tie) who will be registering on the forum as geigerspeed if he has not already. Please if you enjoy these as much as I do offer him your thanks for the efforts and willingness to share.

Thanks again Ittai!!!

The silver and burgundy Ferrari by the open garage door was one that was auctioned through RM this year in Monterey. I wasn't there when it went across and have not checked their results yet but it looked stunning in the lobby display where they kept it on show the prior few days.

Re: New and lovely photos of #028...

Yes - we've talked about the Andretti connection before here. I recently learned that Michael Andretti was given this car in his contract as part of his compensation package when he drove briefly for McLaren in 1993. When the car was finished it remained in the UK as there was no viable option at that point for bringing it into the USA. Michael kept the car there for approximately one year before it was sold to a customer in Japan. The signature on the visor and a small plate on the rear grill of the car opposite of the McLaren badge that reads "Special Order Car by Andretti" are the outward indications of his past ownership.

Does anyone know what the cross hatches are under the windshield wiper? It's visible in the last two pictures. Have never seen that on any of the other F1's before.

On a different note, yes, that is a nice 456. One of the few Straman convertibles made.

Fitted in Japan I believe where strange little car do-dads like that are popular. My guess is it is actually intended to clean the windshield wiper with every sweep. Seems like it would tear up the rubber every pass too requiring more frequent replacement.

I am sure we all remember Jay Leno's talking about the F1 windscreen wiper, but here it is again:

I am going to make another push to try and get a copy of Gordon's Keynote. It really must be shared.

Did Gordon Murray speak during Monterey? Or are you talking about the Art Center Keynote?

ArtCenter - it has always disappointed me that my video was terrible and missing a large section of his speech and the efforts I have made to get my hands on their professionaly shot footage has falled on deaf ears it seems.

I don't recall any indications that he was involved in the development process. The drivers who filled that role were Dr Jonathan Palmer and a rather young, but soon to be successful, Mika Hakkinen.

The other thing that catches my attention, besides the error on the Le Mans results is this quote:

Quote:
"...and their owners, according to him, have totaled four of them."
That seems to imply the answer I gave during the F1 presentation at Pebble was correct as according to my records we've lost two road car prototypes and four production F1 road cars.

This Ferrari 250 GTO (s/n 3943GT) was owned by Tom Price (new owner paid $10 Million for it in 2010).

Anything in common with #028?

The Senna 'S' on the back of #016 a while ago could make people think of a connection between the man himself and the F1, but I too haven't heard of anything concrete between him and the F1
