2000 Eclipse GT - Problems

Bought it in 2009. About 115k miles.

Body = Excellent/near pristine condition.


Work we have had to do on the car: New clutch, new alternator, new struts, new turn signal rod.

Car currently grinds when attempting to go into reverse. This was a small problem before I had the clutch replaced and the person who replaced the clutch did not mention it. The problem has now gotten worse. What is wrong with the car?

There is also a sound I am hearing coming from the front left side of the car which only occurrs when the car is in gear.

Grinding only going into reverse leads me to believe that the syncro's for reverse are bad and that would mean it's a time for a rebuild. Or you could just live with the problem till the tranny finally breaks. I had a 2000 Cougar (same car as the Eclipse) and it did the same thing. Drove it for about 2 years with the grinding happening till the tranny finally broke.

As for the sound coming fron the front left of the car when the car is in gear...you didn't mention if the car is in gear AND stationary or if the car is in gear AND moving......so which is it?

Thanks Tony. The sound coming from the left front end is most noticeable when I'm in gears 1-3.

With the grinding when trying to go into reverse, does the fact that I just had the clutch replaced matter?

i have the same car just rs and manual and i have like almost the same problems except when in reverse my car just vibrates a little strange no grinding. and my front right tire makes a weird sound only when i turn right. i have no idea what it is im just now looking into it.

Yeah it kinda sucks. Mine is an internal transmission problem so I'm basically screwed. Trying to get around $3,000 for it but doubt that will happen.
