power steering whine
I have a 06 grand prix, super charge, 3.8. After 3 reman pumps it still whines, no air in system. Should I get new gm pump? Thanks

Re: power steering whine
Welcome to AF!!
A reman pump should be as good as a new one however there may be issues elsewhere. Are you certain that you don't have a belt tensioner pulley going bad? If you have checked all of the pulleys and they are good check the belt itself. It may not be properly aligned and is causing the whine. Finally, if you have checked all of these and the pump still whines I would try some power steering fluid additive like Lucas oil to see if that quiets the pump. If that doesn't work try a new pump but it is strange that three pumps would do the same thing. |

Re: power steering whine
Three pumps within how many miles?
Was the whole power steering system flushed? Are you using power steering fluid, ATF, or syntheic ATF? |

Re: power steering whine
3 pumps within hours lol. Im using power steering fluid. The last pump I put on is the quite at idle and turning. When I rev it up it makes the whining noise, load noise.. Sounds like it's low on fluid, that noise, but it's not. Thanks

Re: power steering whine
Doe's it whine when you turn the wheel to the left or right?
If you hear the whine with RPM's, it could be the idler pulley, or tensioner. |
