GTP at 252K

Hello All,

I am writing this to say "Thank You" to everyone who has helped me over the years with questions about my 97 Grandprix GTP and also to share some key things. I wrecked the car earlier this year and it was a total loss (I was going around the ramp little too fast and it skidded). Needless to say, I was very sad.

I bought the car at 52K miles (preferred it over a GT because it was more fun to drive). I thought it would last till about 100-125K and I would buy a new car by then. With time I fell in love with the car and it was solid as a rock. The car had more than 252,000 miles when it died. The car had original engine, transmission, exhaust, radio and almost everything. Only things I replaced was power steering pump and rack, alternator, belts, tires, etc. Loved the heads up display, 12 CD changer and wish newer cars that those features.

My wife wanted me to get rid of it when we bought our third vehicle but I stood my ground and she was glad when she saw the car going and going.. Another instance happened when i went to get the tires at 95,000 miles. The guy at the shop commented that these set of tires would be the last for this car. I went to him again to get a new set at 180,000 and he was surprised. I asked him if he wanted to make the same comment again, he was hesitant....

Again, I thank everyone especially Rich from Flint, MI for all the help over the years. With this forum's help, I understood so much about the car and was able to maintain it well. I loved the car a lot and if I wouldn't have wrecked it, I would have been driving it even today.

Vik

Re: GTP at 252K

I feel for you, man. I've got a 99 GTP and, though not as fast as it used to be, is strill going strong at 160K. I hope mine eclipses that quarter million mark.

Good luck finding a replacement.
