Front Stabilizer Bar - 99 GTP

My front stabilizer bar is cracked at one end.
I was wondering what the difference is between the GMPP offered by ZZ Performance and the suspension kit offered by GM, # pk12456148.
Any info or advice welcom.

the GMPP is thicker, stiffer, and stronger. i got one when my stock one cracked. if you do get the GMPP one, it requires a little more manipulation to get it in. we gently jacked up the downpipe from underneath the car with a bottle jack so that the bigger bar would slide in.

Re: Front Stabilizer Bar - 99 GTP

Thanks for the tip!
I noticed past posts regarding an issue with the brackets; I ordered #12498643 from GM, and it comes with bushings, but it doesn't look like it comes with brackets.
Should I expect a problem with using the stock brackets?

Re: Front Stabilizer Bar - 99 GTP

oh wow. good call. upon reading that thread, i seem to remember having to buy a socket with a universal joint so i could tighten one of the bolts down.. and as far as the brackets go, i think i may have just elongated them with a drill just enough to get them to fit. again, obviously my memory isnt spot-on, so i could be wrong. i hope i helped at all

Yeah, I just noticed that your post was back in 2009, and "rubberman" just posted in it, in June 2011.
He or she claims you need new brackets, as well as bushings.....but, maybe that's wrong, since the GM kit only comes with new bushings.

Re: Front Stabilizer Bar - 99 GTP

ya come to think of it im pretty sure i just drilled out the brackets just a little bit to make them fit. i did order polyeurathane endlinks, however, as was recommended to me by one or two of the other members. i believe the brand was MOOG.

Re: Front Stabilizer Bar - 99 GTP

Well, the new bar is in, but the stock brackets do seem to be causing an issue. They seem too small. They're already fairly tight, and I still have approx 1/2" gap between the flange on the bracket and the frame.
Is there a larger bracket that I can get, which will fit better with these new/larger/solid stabilizer bars & bushings???
