01 Suburban Transmission problems

I have an 01 Suburban 4x4 with 5.3 and 4l60e transmission. Truck has 241k. Transmission went out and I am on a very limited budget right now. Got on Craigslist and found one out of a 2001 Tahoe with 113k. Guy said he pulled the engine and trans out of the Tahoe to put a Duramax in it and have a playtoy. Anyway, bought the used tranny from him. Haul it home and pay a mechanic today to install it. The "new" transmission had a broken neutral safety switch when I got it so we used the one from the old transmission. The mechanic gets it switched over and the "new" transmission installed, then calls me and says the "new" one is no good either. It has reverse, low, and 2nd. When it shifts into what should be the next gear, it's as if the truck is in neutral. I got ahold of the guy I bought the trans from and he says "gee I never had any problems with it, but it sounds to me like the neutral safety switch is out of adjustment or there is an issue with a sticky valve in the valve body"

My question is this, is that a true possibility or did I likely get screwed and just need to suck it up and shell out the money to have one rebuilt and installed? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If it feels like neutral when going into 3rd, most likely the 3/4 clutch pack is gone.

Yep. 3/4 clutches burnt. No way a neutral safety switch will cause this. He knew it was bad, that's probably why it was not in a truck. He should make good on it but good luck. What were symptoms of the trans you took out originally?

What went out on your old transmission?
Transmission itself or transmission computer or wiring?
Did you test it out before saying it as bad?
As said on the one you bought may be 3-4 clutch pack or may be other things.
Or may be your truck transmission/engine computer ot wirng is bad that could have caused yur problem to start with.

Did you pull pan and check filter and see what was in bottom of pan?
Have you put it on a transmission capable scanner and check out solenoids and taransmission wiring and transmission computer?
Have you run a pressure check on it?

Remeber only proper testing will give you the answer to your problems.
