new lease option (should I sign?)

I just leased a Mazda 6. The dealer express mailed me a new lease to sign. The dealer told me that he wants to give me a new Ford Pre-Paid Maintenance Program. The dealer stated that "We have adjusted the calculations, on our side, and have not changed your monthly payment." The dealer states that I would get 9 free oil/filter changes and tire rotations.

When I compare the current lease to this new lease there are two changes. The old lease did not have a maintenance fee, the new lease has a $700 maintenance fee that they are not asking me to pay. And, the old lease has the purchase price of the car at the end of the lease at $11,250 and on the new lease, the end purchase price is $12,000.

Is this a good deal or does something seem off here? Should I sign?

Thanks!

Re: new lease option (should I sign?)

Sounds to me like that " free maintenance fee " isn't so free ! The fee , " which they aren't asking you to pay " , will be quietly slid into the lease in the form of a larger cost to be included in the " end of lease purchase price " . Just my and I have been known to be wrong at times !

Maybe it will be nice that you will think before taking the new lease deal. You said that the old lease didn't have a maintenance fee, so it is possible that they will ask you to pay the $700 maintenance fee. If you are not satisfied with the new term then it is okay that you will find another lease deal. Good luck.

... it does sound a bit off when they propose to change a lease. maybe they're just trying to squeeze more money from you. Being cautious is a good trait :P

Welcome to AF

Is the end purchase an option?
If not, they are saving you $700 on servicing, but costing you $750 when you buy the car.

If it is an option, and you have no interest in taking it, then it's a saving for you.

If you don't keep up with the regular maintenance and have records, they might charge you at the end of lease anyway.

How many month/mile lease do you have?
