Blower Problems
I have a 2000 Grand Prix and have had on and off blower problems for the past year. Last fall the blower motor was not working and a ignition switch replacement fixed the problem. Now it is not functioning again and I need a fix for it before the cold weather. My guess is since it is an intermittent problem again either the ignition switch is bad, again, or the motor or fan itself is not receiving signal 100% of the time because it is bad. It has rarely blown any air this summer maybe twice in the whole summer which is worse than when I had to fix the ignition switch.
If you know of anything that could help that would be great. It might be the resister as well but when it worked it worked on all the settings. Thanks, Greg |

Re: Blower Problems
Hi Greg,
The blower isn't working at all or works only at the highest setting? If so, then you might have a bad blower motor resistor, it is located at the blower motor and it's easier to replace if you remove the passenger seat. The bolts holding it in place are slotted so you don't need to remove them all the way, just loosen them. Oscar.

Re: Blower Problems
when it has worked in the past it worked on all the settings. So I'm not sure if that's electrical or blower problems. It's been a very odd car with electricity problems since I got it so I'm fearing that it is probably anther weird unexplained electrical glitch.

Re: Blower Problems
gsal86 it is an electrical issue, it happens when the windshield wipers are on and the circuit spikes. Search this forum for blower issues it will explain it all to you. Mine just stayed on so I have to unplug it when I turn the car off and plug it back in when I want to use it. It has been a pain but I don't have the $ to get it fixed.....

Re: Blower Problems
Turn blower on.....if it doesn't move, give the blower housing a love tap with a hammer/screwdriver....if it now works, check harness connection and mating connectors in housing ...if ok, replace blower motor....
If blower doesn't move after hitting it, disconnect harness and attach a test light.....turn blower switch from low to high....light should get progressively brighter....if it doesn't light, check to see if you have power into the resistor block(manual system).....If you have power in, it's the resistor block.... |
