Yet another broken spring

Hello all, I recently discovered that the drivers front strut spring is broken on my 2000 SE.I discovered this while checking my front pads. I've owned the car since last fall and I suspect it was broken before I bought the car. The coil had broken at the bottom last turn and was almost in a complete circle. It couldn't damage the tire. It did make clunking noises and now I know why.

I called Ford Canada and surprise !!! the 10 year warranty on this has expired,oh joy. I asked for a good faith replacement but no way. I suggested Ford pay 1/2 the cost, again no joy. I ended up buying 2 new front struts, quick struts. I got a good price , about $170 for 2 with shipping. So now I've reviewed the replacement procedure and will give it a go in a couple days.

I'm quite disappointed in Ford . My car only has 125K now far under the 240K limit for the warranty but beyond the 10 years. Ford doesn't consider it a safety issue.I even suggested that I placed a sign in my car window and parked out on the street in front of a Ford dealer but again no sympathy for the working guy. Oh well, the car is still running fine but I now have a story to pass on to ppl who want a Ford. This is my 4th Taurus, I obviously like them or too dumb to know any different. I'm at a point now where I'm considering a European car. M-B has a decent lease deal on now and I may consider it. Until then I guess it's Taurus although my wife would like a Mustang, decisions,decisions.
