Ferrari 458 Italia

Hello Guys,

This is a Ferrari 458 Italia from Fujimi, it was built straight out of the box with tamiya metallic blue and wooden deck tan for the interior. The only additions are the bridgestone potenza tyre decals.

I have to agree with other modelers whom have built this kit that fujimi has over-simplified this one.

Let me know what you think and thanks for looking.

Regards
Krishna Iskandana

Nice work, great color combo, but not so sure about those tire decals.

What's up with Fujimi lately? Hobby Search has posted kit contents and instructions for their new SLS. Again, Revell blows them out of the water. The SLS is over-simplified too.

Re: Ferrari 458 Italia

Ditto the comments above; the tire decals seem to clash w/the rest of the build, lending an almost "Hot Wheels" look to the model. The tire markings on Ferrari Challenge cars are a lot more subtle.

And yes, Revell has learned how to trounce Fujimi when they kit the same subject. First the 458, and now w/the SLS. No excuses this time about rushing a kit to market (Fujimi's 458 sure seemed like it).

I have to wonder if it's a regional thing; I was told that Revell AG will spend the $$ to do new tooling of models popular in Europe, even if the Asian companies offer them. That's the reason for the VW van and the 2CV; Revell AG kits are good 20 Euro kits over there and sell well, the Japanese kits are far more expensive. So is Revell's SLS selling for a big premium in Japan vs. their domestic kits? Likely so, at least w/o me searching HLJ or Hobbysearch for the answer.

Not to mention the fact that we have two different 458's, two different SLS's, a zillion 2CV's, a Prius, and ZERO 599 GTO's

Re: Ferrari 458 Italia

HLJ told me that the Prius has been a big seller for them both domestically and internationally. Blows my mind. Sure, everyone wants to build the non-exotic car that we like (I wouldn't mind seeing, for example, a 6 series or something like that), but exotic cars are popular the world over, so its weird that there's no McLaren F1, 599 GTO, etc.

If I recall correctly, the Revell kits that HLJ sells are very expensive.

Exchange rate issues, etc?

Sorry to steal your thread! Love the blue color!

Re: Ferrari 458 Italia

IMO the tires decals have nothing to do here, and they look oversized moreover...
the blue color isn't bad but the eyes are only caught by those white tires decals...
What a pain...
I don't understand either your choice to paint metallic aluminium the side view mirros base ??
such exotic ununderstandable choices (only to add "details" or what ?? keep simple, that's the best imo) ruins a bit the beauty of the build... But it's only my opinion.
PS: you also miss the black corner at the bottom of the front lights.

Revell provides decals for those triangles, Fujimi...nothing. A flat spot on the model where a small mesh intake resides on the real car

I know that revell provides the decals and fujimi not, but it's not a sufficient reason imo not to paint or make it oneself !
Such (missing) detail is very visible.

I like the body color, but not sure about the tire decals... (They could have been smaller, I think.)

Lately? AFAIK, something is always wrong with Fujimi products for decades!
Besides, Fujimi's SLS is curbside w/PE for 3675 yen, while Revell Germany's SLS is fully detailed for 5040 yen, which is quite appropriate for the Japanese market, doesn't it?

Haha, true. But just a few years ago they were releasing very detailed cars, such as the LS600 and the Ferrari Scuderia. Those cars had excellent detail, despite some inaccuracies.

The Fujimi SLS might be cheaper and undoubtedly has better wheels and tires, but it lack of detail and features outweighs the 1365 yen difference, IMO.

That explains a lot; must be a model particularly aimed at the Japanese/Asian market. Surely they'll sell very few in Europe, where the price difference between Revell and Fujimi will easily be reversed in Revell's favor.
