Question about mixture control solenoid

I have a 1981 Buick Regal V6 3.8L with a 2 barrel Rochester Quadrajet Carb. I just recently rebuilt the carb because the car was stalling out when you touch the gas. Runs much stronger now but that solenoid still doesn't click and now the carb backfires and it runs really rough, and if you press hard on the gas the car most likely stalls. So im assuming that the solenoid is bad. I havent adjusted the mixtures screws yet though. So basicially my question is how important is the solenoid? If I just very accuratly adjust the mixture screw would the car run better or would it still run really poorly because of the solenoid? Thanks for any advice.

Re: Question about mixture control solenoid

The m/c solenoid controls the mixture off idle, a basic ecu takes the info from the tps and o2 sensors, once warmed up. then pulses the solenoid. When adjusting the m/c you should use a dwell meter and look for about 30 degrees dwell,

I thought Honda was the only company silly enough to use ECU controlled Carbs.

Re: Question about mixture control solenoid

Oh I see, so itll run poor if i don't fix it.... Too bad cause those things are kind of expencive. Ill ohm this one out first to make sure its the solenoid at fault. As of right now it doesnt click at all or anything.
