not sure but do a little checking on any fuel cut offs. Ford had a car that caught on fire in someones garage and killed a family, after that they put a few features that cut the fuel supply if it senses any type of problem. I think one is in the trunk and one under the dash. This is just a guess but check the web.

What year and engine?????

Is check engine lite on??

Do you have spark when this happens.

Spray carb cleaner into throttle bosy if it runs it is a fuel issue if not spark problem.

Check camshaft and crankshaft sensors.

Re: starting problems starts then drive ten minutes wont restart

Hi , it is a 94 ford taurus sho 3.2 and it will turn over but no start i dont think it could be a fuel issue why would the fuel let it start after it cools down i was thinking more twords the lockup solenoid now that make more sence to me or maybe that cranckshaft sensor but my problem right now is i dont know witch one is the lockup solenoid because there is three solenoids the same in this tranny AXOD .

Re: starting problems starts then drive ten minutes wont restart

I'm not sure what lockup solenoids you're referring to. If you're referring to transmission solenoids, they could cause it to stall, but would not prevent it from restarting. A fuel pump, however, could cause it to stall, and could cause it to require a cool down period before it will restart. This is not the typical failure mode for the fuel pumps though, often they will work fine until you shut the engine off. You'll drive to the store, run inside for 10 minutes, come back out and the starter will spin the engine but it won't start.

The fuel pump cutoff that Fishfind mentions is an inertia cutoff that will shut off the fuel supply in the event of an accident. It has nothing to do with cars and trucks starting on fire when sitting in a garage (that was an ignition switch or brake light switch issue), and they will not reset themselves. It is a mechanical switch that requires a manual reset. Many of the Ford trucks have them located in the cabin, while the cars typically have them located in the trunk. On your SHO, it is located on the driver's side of the trunk.

It was somewhat common on the SHO for the water pump to leak coolant on the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor and cause intermittent stalling or no-start conditions. To determine what's happening here, you're going to need to perform more troubleshooting like Tempfixit mentioned by determining what you don't have when the car won't start, fuel or spark. Without knowing that, it's just a guessing game.

Re: starting problems starts then drive ten minutes wont restart

well my friends im going to have to disagree with the trans. solenoid , because one of my past girlfriends had a buick summerset that did this same thing it took me awhile to get it fix but a friend of mine worked for lee miles transmissions and he told me that is a solenoid in the tranny thats what was causing it to do that bought the solenoid from him for 12 dollars put it in and work just fine no more stalling .
thats what made me think it could be this solenoid causing this problem or that ckp cause if i remember right the guy i got the car from said he had just replaced the water pump and you say that water can leak on the ckp and cause it to fail stalling and no start thanks for all you help wish me luck im going in!
