Re: Hey Canucks! (pun intended)

Vancouver has a reputation for being full of peace-loving tree-huggers, aging, left-wing counterculture types, and hardworking Asians...... but it also has the meanest, roughest downtown neighbourhood in all of Canada, with drunks looking for a fight.

These fawking idiots are a disgrace to the nation. Their actions didn't have anything to do with hockey enthusiasm.... it was all about having an excuse for some looting and destruction.

Had this happened in Toronto, our cops would have rounded them up in the hundreds and thrown all their asses in jail (as they did during the G20 summit last summer)

That's the part that gets me. I saw this and I'm thinking, "wait, isn't Vancouver the pacifist town?"

What gets me is this isn't the first riot there. You'd think the city would be on top of it but that's just me.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I've heard on other boards from other Canadians that Canadians are the peaceful ones but the French sects all throughout Canada are the big troublemakers. Any truth to that?

Can't be. We all know the French wouldn't fight their way out of a paper bag. Maybe they grew some balls when they came to Canada?

The French Canadians are not trouble-makers at all, in that way. Generally they are a terrific bunch, and, other than an occasional "maudite Anglais" are very friendly and civil. Indeed, the best place for a good time and to meet great people is Montreal.

About the only trouble from the French is from separatism. About a third of Quebeckers moderately to-strongly believe the province of Quebec should be a separate country. But this is a complex issue, with many differing viewpoints.

The rest of Canada, and 2/3 of Quebec believe this is a bad idea and a united Canada is a stronger and better nation. However, absolutely nobody is going to riot or fight about this issue. Nobody in Quebec or Canada think this issue is worth a fight, (except maybe a debate in the House of Commons.)
