Loosening spark plugs
Hello to all:
Today I attempted to change the spark plugs on my 03 Taurus (Vulcan). The spark plugs on the front of the engine came out fine. The rear spark plug I’m having problem loosening. Is this normal? What can I use or do to loose them. I'm a little afraid of breaking the spark plugs if I put too much torque on them. Any info will be greatly appreciated. |

Re: Loosening spark plugs
As long as you are using the correct socket and it is on square, you shouldn't break the spark plugs in the Taurus. There are some Ford trucks that I would be concerned with breaking, but I don't believe that plug style was ever used in the Taurus.
You may just need to get a longer ratchet wrench and make sure you are trying to loosen the plugs rather than tighten. -Rod |

Re: Loosening spark plugs
It is possible the front were easier because they had been removed before and the back are original that no one wanted to take the time/effort to check on. I know my father will do this and it drives me up the wall. I tell him to just let me know when he is messing with the spark plugs and I will get them all out for him. Some people think 3 new ones is at least better than no new ones, and there may be just enough improvement to get by for awhile.

Re: Loosening spark plugs
blow out around plug holes with a blow gun, spray pb blaster around plugs were they go into head, give them 10 minutes then try to remove them.
