National Doughnut Day was established in 1938 by The Salvation Army to raise funds to help people in need. They're still around?? LOL Most if not all have gone out of business in my area. It was funny , people used to go to the next city over (Rochester) about an hour and a half drive from here to buy them by the dozen and some civic groups drove out there and brought back dozens to sell as a fundraiser. Then they open up shop here in Syracuse and close shortly after a year. they blamed changing eating habits and the Atkins diet for their demise.
Dunkin' Donuts is doing a similar promo in our area.
