Snap Ring Pliers

Hello to everyone!

I need a tool to remove a type of Circlip or Snap ring that is not like the more common thin snap ring with 2 holes one each end into which you insert one of the prongs of the common snap ring pliers. These retaining rings are thicker, heavier, stronger and the ends come to a tapered point, rather than having holes to use for installation & removal [Please refer to pics]. I am having difficulty removing these rings from this transmission and I may need to re-use these rings, since this is an older trans and I have not been able to find new ones available yet.

There is apparently a specific type of Snap Ring Pliers used to remove this type of Circlip. I only have the type of tool that uses 2 points that are inserted into the holes in the snap ring. I have been told that there is a different type of tool needed for these rings, but I have not been able to find anything like this shown on any of the websites I have been searching.

Does anyone know of the type of tool I need to remove these type of rings without damaging them, and who makes them or where I can find these tools? Any suggestions or advice will be very much welcomed!

Jay

Re: Snap Ring Pliers

There is a tool for that type of ring, the snap on number is SRP4. Many stores sell a cheaper version but i give the number so you can look it up and know what they look like. Without the right tool you will dammage the clip.
