Unhappy Yet again, a new issue...

I have a new issue with my 05 GP GTP with 145,000 miles.

95% of the time when I start my car I have 3 lights that show on my dash.

*Traction Contol Off*
*Stability control off*
*ABS/Parking Brake light*

My driver control center reads:

*Service Traction System*
*Service Stability System*
*Service ABS System*
*Service Brake System*
*Service Variable Enhanced Steering System*

What could be causing that... and I truly hope its not the Brake Control Module...

Any advice?

Oh, and I have had issues for a long time that when I first start my car and I start rolling my abs will kick on for just a second when I first touch the brakes. Sometimes it also feels like I have a sticky brake caliper as well (even though I have replaced the front calipers). I don't know if that is related or not. Since the new alerts started the ABS doesn't kick on when I first start rolling because it is disabled according to these new alerts.

Just some extra info. Thanks in advance for any help guys.

Re: Yet again, a new issue...

I suggest you have the car scanned with an ABS capable scanner. Based on your description I suspect you have one or more bad wheel bearings that are causing this issue.

Re: Yet again, a new issue...

Have you brought this concern to the attention of your local dealership? There are many benefits to taking a vehicle to your local dealership. You can guarantee that technicians are certified and that the parts come with a GM parts warranty. For these reasons, I would recommend taking the vehicle to your local dealership to be diagnosed. They should be able to assist you further and have a plan for addressing the issue. I can also look into this issue further. In order to do more research, I will need some more specific information from you such as your name, address, phone number, the VIN for the vehicle, and current mileage. If you have further questions, please feel free to contact me either on the thread or via private message. Thank you.

Tricia, GM Customer Service.

Re: Yet again, a new issue...

the person I bought my car from replaced the abs module for the same issue. My abs also kicks in for a second when I first start rolling, it doesn't bother me though. I will check it out when I get bored. Like GTPDAD said check the front and rear wheel bearings for play first, look for any loose connections or damaged wires. If you do not see any issues there, you may want to take it to a dealer or reputable garage to save you a headache. once you find out what the issue is you can get used parts from Morads if you need to. link is in the performance section. good luck

Re: Yet again, a new issue...

+1 on getting your car scanned, if you can afford it Autozone sells an ABS capable scanner for 35 dlls I think (remember seeing it at the windstar forum).

It is very likely the problem is with one of the ABs sensors (mounted ont he hub bearings) so looking for any play when you pull/push at the 6 and 12 o'clock position at each wheel like GTP_DAD and Rick have said should be the first thing to do in case you want to see it yourself.

All systems (traction, stability,ABS and steering) rely on the speed of all 4 wheels in order to activate/deactivate each actuator. So whenever a problem is detected with one wheel the 4 systems will be deactivated or work erratically.

Oscar.
