Shoddy mechanics

My Freelander went in because it wouldn't pick up revs. The key way in the timing pulley was worn and was replaced with a new one from the agents. That's all that had to be done and then obviously the timing set. When I got it back it sounded like a tractor and the whole car was shaking and had no power. After someone else checked it out and stripped it they found 8 bent valves! I want to sue the garage for damages to my engine. Can anyone tell me how they could've stuffed my engine up so badly so I have something to go on when I attempt to take them to the cleaners? PLEASE.... HELP....
