1998 Monte Carlo Fan wont turn on with A/C

I have a 1998 Monte Carlo with 3800. My cooling fan wont cut on with air condition. The a/c compressor is coming on and the cooling fan for the engine cooling. No fan for a/c so my air condition is not working. Could someone please help. Thanks alot, well appreciated..

If the ac compressor comes on and there is freon in the system then you should get cooling initially without any fan operation.

I'm going to assume by "Fan" you mean blower motor- the one inside the car-- so beat on it, if it comes on- replace it- it is worn out, other than that does it works on any speeds? Try "cutting" it on and off a few time.

"W" cars (as is yours) wait for 175psi discharge pressure to engage the fan- if your compressor is "cycling" it is because your cooling fan is inop- and compressor is shutting off due to high discharge pressure.

Your Variable stroke compressor can run with as little as 5 ounces (system spec is 32 onces) of refrigerant in it- won't cool, but will engage---so my guess from here (knowing 65% of a/c failures are due to loss of refrigerant) is that you have lost enough refrigerant to not cool and not be able to generate 175 psi discharge pressure.

does it cool while driving? probably not. I say your cooling fans are fine, the system is just not activating them- due to a/c leak.

Find and fix your leak, recharge, and watch what cooling fans do.
