brake job?

I have a 2005 chevy trailblazer with 88000 miles on it with the original brakes on it. They still seem to work fine. There is no pulsating or squeaking noises, it stops and slows the truck down just fine. But it has been 88000 miles.
How long are the brakes supposed to last on these things.
Am I playing with fire by not getting the brakes checked even though I am not getting any symptoms. Thanks for any input.

it would be a good idea to get a free inspection
alot of times you dont hear any noise(grind/sqeal)until it has
already done damage.if you have rear drum brakes i would'nt
be surprised if they were still ok.

4 wh discs, my 2002 went about 60k, the rotors were rusted on the back side on the rr brakes, big difference in stopping after a complete job was done, BTW none of the pads were on metal, but the rotors were ng.

There is NO WAY to know unless the brakes are inspected.

Even if the pads/shoes are not worn out, the brake FLUID should be replaced periodically; but almost NO ONE actually does this. Brake fluid absorbs moisture which lowers the boiling point. Brakes get hot, moisture boils into vapor, brakes fail. Long term, the moisture corrodes the brake system from the inside.

1. At that mileage, you're WAY overdue for a brake fluid flush.

2. My '03 Trailblazer has 92K on it, and the pads look like they'll go ANOTHER 92K.
