4T65E shift kit

I need to try the shift kit on my 98 Olds Intrigue. Im getting the hard upshifts, seems like only after driving a while. Then it comes and goes...Does anyone know where to get it in Ontario Canada? Or where I can get it shipped pretty quick? I figure I would give this a shot first, before I do anything else

Online may be cheaper but if you don't want to go that route any local Transmission shop should be able to order one for you from their parts supplier. I picked up a Transgo kit last fall through a local shop since most if not all of the Transmission parts suppliers in the Toronto area don't sell to the general public. Btw it has been six months and over 10000km since I installed the kit in my '04 Grand Prix and the P1811 code/ hard upshift when hot problem has not returned. Good Luck!

Re: 4T65E shift kit

I picked up the transgo parts kit today its the T84167G kit. It has a few extra parts that I think are for if your doing an overhaul. It includes a 3rd clutch Seal Kit, and also a New INT & REV Boost Valve. Talking with the tranny guy there tells me the complete tranny needs overhaul. He says Im wasting my money. He tells me that these trannys have issues with the clutches being to far apart and needs to be shimmed closer together, as well as the power control solinoid needs replacing. Now he never pushed me or anything...just offered his advice. He tells me he has seen many of these transmissions including newer Uplanders with less than 70,000 on them and they need overhaul. He said it might buy me some time, but is no sure all fix for these trannys. He said he has had many dealings with transgo's tech department and knows what he is talking about. Whats everyone elses opinion on just doing the accululator with the spacers and springs and a new filter with some added seal conditioner??

Re: 4T65E shift kit

My experience (365K miles on my '98) says that the transmission guy is right on target. I put 90 K miles per tranny to get to 365 k miles. that translates to 1 rebuilt, and 3 junkyard transmissions. Never got more than 90 K miles per transmission. If you want bullet proof, then you will have to pay $3K for the heavy duty rebuild from the transmission place in Indiana, but my recommendation is to just replace the trans when it gets near the end with a junkyard unit. I got it down to a 6 hour job by the time I lost one of the main bearings in the 3.8 liter. Then it was time for the knacker's yard for the car.... unfortunately, there is no "cheap fix" for the Intrigue's poorly designed transmission, other than a rebuild...

Re: 4T65E shift kit

Ok, so I got to work on the transmission yesterday. I pulled the pan off and got the accumulator out. I opened up the accumulator only to find the top spring on the 2-3 piston broken in 3 pieces. The transgo kit does not contain the springs on the piston top. So off I go on a search to find a new spring...well checked everywhere including King-o-matic who tell me this spring is not available anymore on its own, you need to buy the complete thing. Well finally I found a tranny shop who had one..no charge!
So back home I go...put it all back together as instructed in the Kit. Cleaned everything really good and put the pan back on...fill it with fluid. This whole time, my Dad was in my ear about getting the fuel out of his snowblower gas tank...so my attention is distracted partially. I turn around only to realize I forgot to put the filter back in....AWWW MAN...drain the whole thing out again...remove the pan again to put the filter back in. ( It pays to be attentive to what your doing ) Anyway, I used mobil 1 synthetic and 2 bottles of conditoner. I drove the car all around the area for about 35 mins...I can report it runs and shifts absolutely fantastic. The big test would come when I drove 60 miles back home. Usually when I would go this distance and got off the highway, the first traffic lights it would start the hard upshifting. I get off the higway and cross my fingers....awesome...it shifts like brand new, no bang, a quicker and smooth shift. When I asked a tranny guy about the 4T65E tranny his opinion...because I was thinking of getting rid of the car. His answer was they are not as bad as what people think. Alot of taxi cabs run the 4T65E and its GM flagship with great success. They do have a few quirks like the EPS TCC and clutches. They are hit and miss...but mine is good now with the Transgo kit, and the car owes me nothing, so Im gonna drive it into the ground. All in all...and easy fix, that only time will tell how long it lasts.
